T&E Wall of Care
Now and then community members ask us to give some information about some of the families our group has supported. Because these families are our neighbors, we respect their interest in confidentiality. However, we will post some stories now and then - with all names removed, so you can get a general idea about the types of situations people encounter. In addition, when we receive words of thanks from a family we've supported - we'll post them here. This way you can easily check out to see that your donations really are appreciated!!! At this point we have loaded the thanks we received at the holidays and a few other notes. We'll keep updating as we get additional notes and stories.

FAMILY STORIES
These are just sample stories of some of the people we support.
They are trying - but it's easy to see how the spiral begins.
A single mom and 2 girls moved here a few years ago after a divorce. Mom had a job. The kids are doing very well in school, but the mom lost her job a year ago, and has not been able to find a new job. They have gone through their savings. The house they bought before can't sell because of the market. We are helping her network to find a job, and will likely be helping the kids as they start the college process.
A single mom needs to get her GED's so she can try to get a better job. She has struggled with the process needed to get the GEDs, plus she has no car to get to the classes. We connected her with a mentor who has helped walk her through the sign-up process, and helped work through the bus line needed to get to the class. The mentor is even going to do some tutoring. Sometimes it just takes an outside set of eyes to help people get over the hump.
A single mom with 2 kids is trying to get a job. She is college educated. She sends out applications, goes on interviews, but just can't make it to the final step. We've hooked her up with HR support to confirm her resume is solid. Her last job was a while ago - she had unemployment that helped for a while, but that has now been discontinued. Other than minimal child support (just enough to cover the rent) and food stamps, there is absolutely no income stream for this family. The mom has no medical insurance, but we hooked her up with Community Volunteers in Medicine to get some medical care. We've helped with various utility and car bills - but the shut off notices are back. We'll continue to support her as best we can, but our mission statement lets us help in emergency situations and we can't become a crutch for a family. Let's pray she can get a job really soon!!!!
A single mom with 3 kids was the victim of domestic abuse. She had to leave a job and home to avoid additional problems, and came to our community. She had no car and no furniture. We hooked her up with a food bank so she'd get periodic food distributions. We furnished her house with various donations, and were able to get her a car so she could go on interviews. She is making progress on her job hunt and we feel very optimistic that she and her kids are on a path to a more stable future.
A family is struggling to cover normal living expenses - they rent a very small place for $1200 a month, pay basic bills, never go on vacation, have no luxuries in their life. Mom works but the pay isn't great. The daughter wants to go to college. She applies to a college in Philadelphia - but it's not a state school so the tuition isn't cheap. She gets some assistance through FAFSA and the school itself, but there is still a balance due of $3000 for the year. There are books to buy. We helped this girl cover that tuition balance and bought her books, plus got her a new laptop to use for school (because we all know that in college having a good laptop is as important as having a pencil and paper). She's doing well this first year - and hopefully will continue for the next few years. We expect to continue to support her financially as long as she takes her journey seriously as well. (Her mom sent the note in the 2010 notes below.)
A dad has a serious medical situation and has to take time off his job. He wasn't being paid a lot to begin with - so there wasn't much in savings. During his time off the bills start to mount up. Disability covers some expenses, but there are new costs related to his medical care, as not everything is covered. The family has 2 small kids. The wife can't work because her salary alone isn't enough to cover daycare for the kids, plus her husband needs a caretaker and they can't afford a nurse - so the wife becomes his caretaker. Now there's even less money coming in. We pay for a few months of rent for the family - hoping that by the time the next payment is due dad will be back to work. We give them some gift cards for food, and put them on our holiday drive to help with holiday gifts and dinner. Unfortunately, after the new year started he still isn't able to start back to work - so we hook the family up with another agency that agrees to cover his rent for another few months. He's still in this recovery stage - with the hope and prayers that he'll be functional very soon.
A single mom and middle-school aged child are struggling with their bills. The child was adopted with medical issues that have turned out to be worse than expected. The dad was removed from the home after charges were filed related to the child. Mom has a job but it isn't high pay (and it is hourly), and she misses work due to the many problems with the child. Dad pays some child support, but is significantly behind in what he owes. They have tried to rent out one of the bedrooms in the apartment to bring in some extra cash, but it's hard to find a renter willing to come into an already difficult situation. They make it work (barely) most months, but there are times when they just run short and we've been able to help keep them from spiraling with some extra funding support.

- I first want to say that I hope that you had a very nice Christmas. I also wanted to thank you for all the goodies TE Cares dropped at my door. It REALLY helped to make our Christmas a wonderful one. The kids so enjoyed everything that they received and were so grateful. Without TE Cares we would not have had such a wonderful Christmas. I also wanted to tell you what a GREAT time we had at the Nutcracker. We all loved it! It was such a nice treat. Thank you again for all your generosity throughout the year. You have helped us so much and I can not thank you enough. I hope that you have a wonderful happy and a healthy New Year!
- My sincerest thanksWe had a fantastic holiday thanks to T&E Care! Again, I cannot thank you all enough. It made our holiday very generous and fantastic for the kids, I love seeing their smiles because there were so many gifts from all our generous neighbors!! Also, the household products were fantastic!! I now have to clean my house! Ha ha. Our daughter in college got her grades and she has all A's and B's!! It's great. I cannot thank you enough for supporting her as well!!!
- Hello all - i just wanted to write a note of thanks for all the care and support you all have given my family this christmas season. we are so very grateful for the gift cards and food and our family loved the nutcracker. we are blessed to be in the community and have people come around us in our time of need. again we are grateful and appreciate your help. happy new year to all of you.
- To All T/E Care helpers. I thank you so much for everything you have done for my family and my neighbors. Christmas would not have been Christmas without your thoughtfulness and all of the year at that. Love all of you and May God Bless you Always.

- First I want to say THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! Once again TE CARES has made this Christmas a dream come true. Unfortunatly this year is just as rough as last year finacially but with the help of EVERYONE in the TECARES org. I was able to give my children a Merry Christmas. We also had a GREAT EXPERIENCE watching the Nutcracker! Thanks to whoever donated those tickets. It was an amazing show!!! We are hoping to go again one day. We were so thankful for all the items we were so kindly given, and which made our Christmas, Christmas! Everything, every single item has been appreciated and used or eaten by one or all of us, and has been most gratefully received, from the gifts to the vouchers, the food, all the way through to the toothpaste! We thank everyone involved for their kindness, thoughtfulness and effort on our behalf. A very Happy New Year to you all.

- Thank you once again for everything you have done for my daughter and I. In the past week , I got out all the information the hospital and the welfare office ask for and went to the doctor's . He wants me to have two tests . One I had done yesterday and the other can not be done until next Thursday I am out of work until I see him again . I hope you have a wonderful holiday !! - There's a tune in my head from one of my favorite movies, White Christmas, I think it's appropriate for the folks at TEcares, it goes like this... "If you're worried and cannot sleep, just count your blessing, in stead of sheep- and you'll fall a sleep counting your blessings..."
TEcares has been a constant blessing to me, the house where my family lived was affected by mold & mildew from hurricane Irene, we had to move. Many sleepless nights I worried and didn't know what to do. Sometimes we let pride get in the way and you try and try to manage on your own. What I've learned in life, there's people who honestly want to help, all you need to do is reach-out to them I reached out... TEcares grabbed my hands and led me out of despair. I believe in Angels, they really are all around us! My sincerest thanks to TEcares for all you've done for my family. Merry Christmas and all the Blessings for a Wonderful New Year!

12/7/11 - (transcribed exactly from a phone message): I am calling you to give you an update on what's been going on. I went to Wings for Success and it was just wonderful, wonderful. And I got lovely, lovely outfits for interviews. They were very helpful and I was very comfortable and they just made me feel good . I appreciate you referring me to them and everything else you've done. I've applied for food stamps as you suggested and have put in some interview applications. Thank you for all the help you've done for me and my family.

11/3/11 - Thank you for your positivity and kind words. It has been a rough five months and the medical issues really put us in the hole. I am trying extremely hard to get us back on our feet and providing our kids with a bright future. Again, I grateful for you and your organization for helping me see the light at the end of the tunnel. With the car repairs and furniture out of the way, I can focus on the pile of bills that need to be paid.
10/30/11 - I cannot thank you enough for all the help and support your organization has given me. It's amazing to me that there are people out there like this! I have had such a relief of stress from all of this that I am forever grateful from everyone's kindness and and efforts. My son is beyond happy with his clothes! The new jackets and winter hat look fantastic on him. The donated clothes are perfect - he says he'll look "cool" for school with them. So we are great on clothes for him. I am truly astounded by the response.
10/26/11 - I want to thank you so very much for your overwhelming support, counsel, and great generosity you have given my family, and the peace of mind that comes with it. I am truly grateful for all T&E Care has so graciously helped us with. I never dreamed we could encounter such formidable challenges and it is very humbling to have hit such a long rough patch - it wears one down, but I have found support and comfort in prayer and my church and am very thankful for what we do have. I have to keep putting faith before fear and believe we will prevail through these discouraging times. Your group is so amazing and wonderful to do what you do. Please know that we are ever appreciative.
10/24/11 - You have been so thoughtful and helpful regarding our situation. I just wanted to update you. Finally my husband has a full time job! He is working for a professional cleaning company - doing the overnight shift. The pay is pretty good, it should allow us to get a handle on some of our bills. Also I took a part-time job at a store at the mall in King of Prussia. They have had my application since the summer, but they just called me last week to come in an interview. I was hired and start today. Once again, thank you for all your assistance. your kindness has been greatly appreciated. I just wanted you to know that things are turning for us through the grace of God:)
10/24/11 - We can't thank you enough for your kind donation of the car, and very special thanks to Mr. xxxx. His generosity make an immediate difference in our life. I went back to work without any worries. I have the car! I am so happy. My kids they really appreciate our community for the wonderful care we receive. We are so lucky to be a part of the T/E residents. May GOD bless all.
10/11/11 - Dear T&E Care: Thanks again for everything. When I see the leaves on the trees turning colors, I think of change! And I think of how much I have changed with the help of T&E Care! I am more than grateful. And all I can do for now is say thank you!
9/26/11 - I want to thank you kindly for your efforts and help. It is truly and deeply appreciated. I spoke with XXX from the oil company and someone from your group can speak with her directly regarding my oil. I don't have to be home to receive the oil. I am so grateful to reside in such a loving and warm community. Thanks again a million times.

7/5/11 - Thank you so much for all that you have done for me in preparation for college. You have made it so much easier for us, knowing you are there to help us when we truly can't afford something. There is no way that I would be going to school with a brand new laptop without your help. My mom had been losing a lot of sleep over college. We really appreciate all you have done and could not have done it without you.
6/19/11 - I went to the store today and i did got the racquet tennis for my son. AGAIN THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR AWESOME HELP AND THANK THE STORE HELP BY PROVIDING THE OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR SON TO PLAY TENNIS FOR THE FIRST TIME. Also the young man from the store he did such a great job by taking all the time to look for the right racquet for exact inches for a boy my son's age. Thank you so much, we really appreciate all the effort and your time you provide for our kids.THESE ACTS will be unforgettable. (This note was sent to us related to a donation of sports equipment the family received from Play It Again Sports in Berwyn.)

5/15/11 - I wanted to thank T&E Care for making it possible for my child to get new glasses. Words cannot express my gratitude. Thank you for being so wonderful!
5/3/11 - TE Care has been an incredible help for my family through very difficult hardships of the past year. I am a former victim of domestic violence so extreme that I had to be hospitalized. After fleeing this horrific relationship with my children, I was left with the duty of providing for our family single-handedly and found it difficult to adjust to having just one income where there were two previously. I ran into a very scary situation where my lease was ending and I needed to get into a home with my children but had no security deposit or any other resources to make the move. I turned everywhere for help, government agencies, several non-profit organizations, but found no assistance. That is, until a friend told me about TE Care, and gave a wonderful testimony about how they had helped her in a time of need. I gave it a shot, and to my amazement was assisted with money to go towards my deposit and even received donated furniture to furnish the house we would be renting. I have no idea where I would have been without the help of this caring organization of talented individuals; I thank God for the help they have provided us when we needed it most and had nowhere else to turn.
TE Care has gone above and beyond to help me not only with money and donations, but they have also taken time to sit and discuss future plans and to give advice on budgeting and money management. Our community is blessed to have such a great team of people ensuring that others are taken care of, and who give their time, energy and services so willingly and with such great love; truly an amazing group of organizers.
5/1/11 - from a mom and 3 kids that moved away to be closer to family (one daughter has a significant disability): I think of you often, and am still in appreciation of the wonderful things you have done for my family. If it were not for you surely I would still be lost.. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to unite and the desire to do better within ourselves. The children are doing well.
What can I say about xxxxx. She is not easily persuaded by others..She continues to do well in school. 4 A's and 4 B's..I of course would love to see all A's, but she is in a new school, and has adjusted well. She wants to look for a job for the summer. She has great drive and spirit. She has picked up some additional weight, and is working on toning herself up. (It is time for boys) ARGH..... zzzzz is doing well. She is working 2 days a week as a volunteer, but I pay her (cash through her disability check) , to allow her to have a feel for getting a pay check. She enjoys that. She is very excited to attend a real prom if I can just find her a dress. Her brother is taking her. Believe it or not, yyyyy is working still. He does the home health aide and works at Giants at night. He wants to go back to college, but I do not see him having the drive to do so. He must take the responsibility to do it himself. He has opened a bank account and is saving money. He is very involved in our church here, so that is a positive. We are close to being self sufficient, and it is all do to the help of T & E Care - you were there when we needed it the most. I am almost a success story ... (Still a work in progress!)
4/1/11 - Dear all of TE Cares - Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you have done to help me in recovering from a very traumatic part of my life. I thank God for caring individuals like you - truly amazing! Thank you for caring AND showing it by creating this awesome organization. You are in inspiration to everyone who knows of your works.
3/1/11 - Thank you so much for providing me with a new laptop to bring to college next year. It is amazing how fast it runs compared to my current computer, and will be extremely helpful for school. I am more than happy you were able to help me, because without my new laptop, I would be going to school with a 5 year old computer, which runs very slowly. Thank you again for all you have done for me.
1/24/11 (after we delivered some donated furniture to this family): THANK YOU T & E cares! I
cannot thank you enough for the perpetual kindness that you show towards
my family and me. My entire experience w/ T & E cares has been
both humbling and amazing. Not only are you responsive to my concerns,
but proactive as well. In response to today, my children said "TE
cares and these guys 'Rock'!" Although my husband was at work when the
gentlemen came to our home, I know we both concur with our children's
sentiment. Please again thank your "moving gentlemen" for their
helpfulness and pleasant attitude. Not only did they remove our broken
floor model TV, but a couple of the younger gentlemen complimented my
children on their bunkbeds (they have a homemade tent over their bed for
fun). That made my children smile, and feel good. Again, we sincerely
thank you. Please consider how we can be helpful...now or later. I
continue to pray Gods fullest blessings on you, and yours. Have a great

SHARING WORDS OF THANKS - December 2010
We
have received a number of thank you notes from some of our local
families related to the holiday assistance (and a few other types of
assistance), and wanted to share them with you (edited only to remove
any names):
Dear TE Cares Staff and Supporters, I just wanted to express my sincere thanks and gratitude for the many gifts you provided for my three young children. Your kindess made their Christmas and mine so much brighter. I look forward to the day when I can "pay it forward" and put a smile on a few little faces.
I
just want you to know I look like the cowardly Lion today ; my eyes are
all puffy from crying tears of JOY! I cannot even begin to express my
gratitude to TE Cares. I really thought my one child would get a coat
& the other a blanket.I was so excited to get those two items.
Then, your volunteer showed up at my house with a carload of packages,
gift certificates, house hold items, and even a center piece! I am
still in shock , It feels surreal, like when they say " Move that bus "
! Thank you ! Thank You! Thank you!
It has been a tough time
financially, however the job market will come around and when it does, I
cannot wait to contribute back to the community, and volunteer my time
and contributions to you and TE Cares. Everything is so greatly
appreciated. It is a wonderful time of year. It was truly a Christmas
miracle as well! I am so blessed to have healthy children and to live
in such a fabulous community. Please pass on to your members how
thankful I am for all of their time and most generous contributions.

Thank you so very much for having the
delivery of the food yesterday, I can't tell you how much it is truly
appreciated!!! The gift cards are a blessing, I cannot thank you
enough. We are not used to begging/asking for assistance, we used to
have money, this is a horrible feeling and has been. I digress. Thank
you again for everything!! Again, the food and gift cards are truly
appreciated.
I just wanted to thank
everyone involved in the T/E Cares program....your generosity has not
only helped me and my two kids but also is so touching and greatly
appreciated. T/E Cares is helping us get through our tough times. I

Today
a very nice lady & her husband came by & dropped off sooo much
stuff. Clothes,food,diapers,wipes ect. I really was not expecting so
much! I was moved to the point I cried with JOY. It has been a bit of a
struggle since I have been off work & I had told my girls that
Christmas would be light this year. This kind donation has lightened my
load tremendously. Could you pleaese tell everyone invovled that my
family thanks them! Merry Christmas
Thank
you so very much for all the food, I was so surprised and overwhelmed by
all the generosity! The kids were so excited to see the cookies and
M&Ms, it's amazing the little things they miss. Ironically, my
father-in-law decided to come over and make us dinner, so we had a great
dinner and a holiday blessing all in one night, we were so thrilled. I
cannot thank you enough, the food was generous and overwhelming! It
brought tears to my eyes. This is going to be a great Christmas dinner
and we can make most of the food from fresh food, thanks to you and your
organization!
We are blessed to be in a township that is so caring
and thoughtful of others. It's hard enough to realize you can't afford
things you never thought twice about and to have to reach out for help,
but when you and your organization make it feel like it's okay because
you're here to help, it takes some of the embarrassment out of asking
for that help (not sure if I said that as clear as I could have)!! Have
a great holiday and a wonderful New Year! I really cannot thank you
enough or put into words how grateful we are to you and your
organization and the people in it!!! :)

You once again to you and all those involved in T/E Cares, for thinking
of our family this holiday season from Thanksgiving - Christmas. The
kids just loved the gifts and everything fit perfectly. I just have to
keep my son from throwing the football around in the apartment! My
mother truly appreciated the gift cards and there were plenty to go

TE Cares Staff and Supporters, I just wanted to express my sincere
thanks and gratitude for the many gifts you provided for my three young
children. Your kindess made their Christmas and mine so much brighter. I

I
want to thank TECares for the wonderful furniture donations - because
of you my home has been transformed. My son is over weight but now have a
queen sized bed to stretch out and be comfortable. We also want to
thank you for the Christmas Tree, I didn't think I would be able to get
one this year and became depressed. I asked and you Gave! What a
blessing to live in a Community where people really care and keep doing
over and over again! I sincerely appreciate everyone and everything
you've done for my family. God Bless!
I
wanted to extend a sincere Thank You to all who helped us this
Christmas. We were able to have an enjoyable holiday when I didn’t see
any way to make things work. Thank you so much for the grocery gift
card, the Christmas dinner, the gifts and gift cards for the kids, and
my beautiful new towels (I love them). My family and I are so grateful
to have wonderful people like yourself in our community :) Thank you
also for the additional assistance with getting my finances in order
during this difficult time. I have been struggling for so long and have
been depressed wondering what I was going to do. T/E Cares has been a
tremendous help and your budgeting assistance is amazing. I cannot thank
you enough for everything!

a counselor: I just wanted to pass on that one of the families TE
Cares helped for Christmas is most grateful for the gifts they
received. The student told me the gifts were really, really nice and
helped to make her Christmas special. THANK YOU!!
THE
BEST CHRISTMAS EVER....Those are the 4 words that my child keeps saying
over and over and over again.... and I think this afternoons show at
the Academy of Music was the Cherry on the Icing on the triple Layer
Cake... They LOVED the show. TOTALLY LOVED IT!! (and so did I...)
Please let whom ever gave us the tickets that we are very thankful and
appreciative!! It's great to know there are WONDERFUL people in this world who truly care about others. (In addition to holiday gifts, this family received tickets to see The Nutcracker.)

WORDS OF THANKS - 2010
Fall 2010 - I wanted to take the time to say thank you for your assistance in helping meet the tuition needs for my child. Without your donation to her future, her dream of going to college would have been just that. Because of the extra steps you have helped us to be able to manage. May the grace of God be with T/E Cares and bless each and everyone of your lives. You are all special in my eyes and in my heart. I pray that one day that I will be able in some way to give back something to this incredible organization.
From our summer 2010 camp program:
If
our finances are this bad again next year, I would definitely love to
have this program available to us again. It was great to have the kids
do something over the summer and not have to worry about the cost and
have them enjoying themselves and seeing smiles on their faces! It's
hard enough to decide whether or not to pay this bill or buy milk, so
this program was definitely a God Send to us and my boys had a great
time and I loved watching them and seeing them happy!! It was worth a
few minutes of not worrying about money (for me)!! I can't thank you
enough for this program.
This
is a wonderful program that TE cares has available to the community.
It gives our children an opportunity to have some activities that they
otherwise would not be able to attend. I would just like to thank
everyone that was involved in putting the program together and helping
with the transportation needs. Thank you TE Cares.
If
it was not for T.E Cares my son would never of had this wonderful
experience. He didn't even mind getting up early ever day. In fact he
jumped out if bed. I definitely think this is something that T.E. Cares
should be proud to sponsor! Thank you all for this great opportunity
for my son. I know this was a great esteem building summer for him an he
made many new friends.
