School Supply Drive 2012 July 16-30 ALL FINISHED! AND WHAT A TREMENDOUS RESULT! Even though the drive was shortened by a full week, and we had 20+ more students than last year - we still met our goal! All students were sponsored and bulk items offered. We received many gift cards and general donations as well, to help give families some extra support. THANKS TO ALL!!!!!!!
Fun on Sorting Day 2012 Lots of district students and community volunteers helped to sort the many donated supplies. Donations of gift cards from groups such as Johnson Matthey and ReMax Mainline Charitable Foundation helped us meet our goal. And Matt Holtzer coordinated a dance at the Tredyffrin Library to help raise money for the event, too. Lots of community support for our kids!

Special thanks for the School Supply Drive
As we work on the School Supply Drive we want to acknowlege those special community businesses, individuals, or organizations that have gone above and beyond in making the drive a big success. Included in this group are:
Hats off to all those who helped this year by being a drop-off location, by transporting items around the community, or by making donations to the drive. Thanks to the staff at Conestoga for hosting our sorting day again this year, to the district custodians who transport the bags to the various schools for parent pick-up, and to the school secretaries and counselors who help with the distribution of the bags. And VERY special thanks to the 2012 chairs of our School Supply Drive - Julia Fisher, Eileen Ryle, Barbara McConnell and Amy Ard. The drive was a huge success in large part of their behind-the-scenes efforts and incredible organizational skills.
Johnson Matthey (Wayne) - These special neighbors have stepped up again and offered to sponsor 20 local students, plus they are also donating 20 back packs. This is at least the 3rd year that the folks from Johnson Matthey have lent a big hand and we can't thank them enough!
CSL Behring (King of Prussia) - They have donated many many many bottles of hand sanitizer that we will be able to give all students to help them avoid the flu this winter! What a great idea!
Stryker Orthobiologistics (Malvern) - They offered 5 large boxes of 1 1/2" binders that we can use for students for the school supply drive. We haven't done a final count - but there are close to 200 binders! What a great donation!
RE/MAX Main Line Charitable Foundation has helped out again (another multiple year supporter!) with our school supply drive. They are giving us $500 worth of $25 gift cards that we can distribute to some of the families in our attempt to give them extra funds for those back-to-school clothes or other needs. Many many thanks for this great offer!
Matt Holtzer is a CHS student who organized a dance fund raiser for the T&E Care School Supply Drive. The dance was held July 7 at the Tredyffrin Library, and featured 4 different DJs over the course of the evening. Almost 100 students attended this event (Paint the Night Neon) and had a great time, and in the process almost $900 was raised for T&E Care. Many thanks to Matt for coordinating this incredible event, and to the staff at the Tredyffrin Library for offering their facility and their time for this event. Special recognition to Laurie Doan for helping Matt coordinate the evening. The funds will be used to get additional gift cards or to finish off any unsponsored requests. (see pictures above)
Once again the Wegmans in Frazer and the Wegmans in King of Prussia both donated gift cards to our School Supply Drive! Special acknowledgement to Wegmans for their continued support of families in our community!
Panera Bread is donating some bagels and coffee to those helping to sort all the supplies on Aug 2. What a great way to keep the volunteers motivated!
The Amana Foundation is helping us again! They have offered to get a bunch of the $15 gift cards that we are giving to each family. This is a student run group - and they have been great supporters of our organization in the past. Thanks again!
The T&E Care School Supply Drive 2012
We are up to 181 students from local families that have asked for our help again this year to get school supplies for their kids (and we're still counting!) These supplies are required for the kids - but many local families simply do not have the extra money needed to adequately fill the lists posted by the schools. The kids in these families start the year feeling unprepared and inadequate when compared to their peers. You've been to Staples this time of year - those pencils, pens, and notebooks all add up quickly! Let's help our local kids feel good about the start of this school year! NEW THIS YEAR: the drive will run for only 2 weeks instead of the usual 3 weeks. This is in part to make it easier on our volunteers who work so hard.
A few important notes are below.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES: The list of needs will be posted starting on July 16, with two options: sponsoring a student and/or buying individual bulk supplies. Please fill out the DONATION CHECK-LIST and include it with your donations to help us make record keeping and thank you notes easier.
SPONSORING A STUDENT: There is the list of students to be sponsored, followed by the Generic School Supply Lists noting what to buy. Please note that the Generic Supply Lists provided here are shorter than those on the schools’ websites. This is because we have moved some items to the bulk list and we have some leftovers from last year. Please buy only what is on the Generic School Supply List. BACKPACKS are on the BULK LIST as not all the students need new backpacks.
Special note: Thanks to an extremely generous donation from Stryker Orthobiologics (Malvern) - we now have all the binders needed. If you have binders on your T&E Care shopping list - you can ignore this request!
BULK SUPPLIES: There is a list of bulk supplies that you may donate to the drive. You can purchase all of one (or more) items, or just a small handful - or anything inbetween!
BEFORE YOU GO SHOPPING: It is very important that you contact us (schoolsupply@tecare.org) before you go shopping to let us know which student(s) you wish to sponsor and/or bulk supplies you wish to donate. This will help reduce the extra inventory remaining after the drive for which we have limited storage space. We will keep the website list updated as often as possible.
FINANCIAL DONATIONS: If you’d like to help but don't want to go shopping, cash donations can also be made. As a general guide, the approximate cost to provide school supplies for an elementary school student is $50, for a middle or high school student it is about $100. Of course, any amount will help us meet our goal. Donations can be made by check (made payable to T&E Care) or throughpaypal.Checks should be mailed to: T&E Care, attn: Debbie Weger, 540 Contention Lane, Berwyn, PA 19312.
GIFT CARDS FOR CLOTHES/SHOES: Many of the families we support will also have to pass on getting their kids new back-to-school clothes and shoes. If you would be willing to donate any gift cards to local stores - we will give these cards to these families. Popular stores for clothes and shoes include Famous Footwear, TJ Maxx, Walmart, K-Mart, Target, Sears, JCPenney, Old Navy, or any basic stores at the mall. (No specialty stores, please.) If you would like to send us gift cards, please send an e-mail to schoolsupply@tecare.org letting us know they will be coming. Gift cards (and the Donation Check List) should be mailed to: T&E Care, attn: Debbie Weger, 540 Contention Lane, Berwyn, PA 19312.
GIFT CARDS FOR A HEALTHY BREAKFAST: More and more people are asking us for help purchasing food these days. It would be great to give some families gift cards so they can get items to at least start the school year with enough food for the kids. Acme seems to be the most popular grocery store, but Pathmark, Wegman’s, Trader Joes, Walmart, and Target would be great, too. If you would like to send us gift cards, please send an e-mail to schoolsupply@tecare.org letting us know they will be coming. Send these gift cards (and the Donation Check List) to Debbie at the address above as well.
DROP-OFF LOCATIONS: Drop-off locations are listed in this section. (Remember to please fill out the Donation Check List and include that with your items.)
Simple check list: If you get confused and want help figuring out how to help out with the School Supply Drive - then follow this simple checklist.
Deadline: The final day to drop off all items is Monday, July 30.
If you are sponsoring a student - use this list as a guide for what to get.
